In a tutorial video published by the Business Insider, Gilbert revealed three mistakes that we need to avoid if we want a healthier, softer and younger-looking skin.

She identified three all-too-familiar mistakes that people do when they wash their face.

By knowing these things, we can improve our daily habits and give our skin a little pampering.

Not washing your face every day. She said that many people think that washing their face daily will strip off our skin’s natural moisture.

If you don’t wash your face, you only add dirt and excessive oil builds up on your skin.

As a result, you get more breakouts. The key is washing your face every day with a mild cleanser. For those with more physical activities, washing the face twice is necessary.

Not changing facial products. The skin expert added that people tend to stick to one product all-year round.

It meant using the same facial wash and cleanser for summer and winter.

Gilbert underlined that our face requires different products for different seasons. For example, during summer, one may need to use a cleanser with more sudsing capacity.

If you are acne prone, you might need to switch to a product with salicylic acid. During winter time, use a mild cleanser, with less soap.

Using abrasive materials on your face. Gilbert noted that using hand towels, facial scrubs and other exfoliating materials every day is not healthy for the skin.

Our skin sheds dead cells naturally. If you use these products to exfoliate the skin every day, it will do more damage on your skin. Exfoliation can be done twice a week, at most.

According to InStyle, it is best to wash your face with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser. The lukewarm water will help relax the skin. Afterward, apply a light moisturizer for daily use or a heavy cream for overnight moisturizing.
